Medicare has an enrollment period of around 65 years. This applies to Medicare Part D coverage as well. If one misses the enrollment period and decides to apply later, then there are additional charges for every month that you are late. The penalty is usually 1 percent of the national monthly base premium. In 2015 the premium reached $33.13.
